  The Nativity of the Lord
Based upon the infancy narratives of St. Luke's Gospel, this icon tells the story of the birth of the Lord in a circular fashion, playing with time and space in an almost surreal fashion. From the top left, the angels announced the birth of Christ to the shepherds, moving down to bathing of the Christ Child to the arrival of the Magi and terminating in the center with the Virgin reclining on a red couch with the child swaddled in a cave, symbolizing his birth and foreshadowing his death and entombment.
